Putting kids in schools first for over 35 years!
As I seek reelection for a second term as Trustee for Ward 22, I wanted to share a few of my accomplishments and career highlights to prove that I am the best candidate for this role.
I have integrity, commitment and
experience. I will continue to demonstrate these values in
my second term representing Scarborough East.
I encourage you contact the staff members in your local school. Ask them if I have supported the school, the community and the staff. Ask them if I have responded quickly to issues raised by parents, community members, students and the Administrators. Ask them if they feel that their schools would benefit from having me serve them for another term.
I am a retired educator, having spent 33 years as a Teacher, Vice-Principal and Principal for the Scarborough and Toronto District School Boards. I started my teaching career at Bellmere Jr. PS. During my teaching tenure, I gained additional qualifications in Special Education, Reading and Principals’ Qualifications.
I taught in 6 other Scarborough schools before I was promoted to the role of Vice-Principal at Silver Springs P.S. Two years later, I was appointed as the Principal of Blantyre P.S. I then transferred to St. Margaret’s PS and retired after 6 years as Principal of Highcastle P.S. in 2009.
In 2010 I chose to use my experience, qualifications and training to successfully seek election in Ward 22 (City Wards 43 and 44) as TDSB Trustee. During my campaign in 2010 I committed to be a full-time Trustee when needed, visit my schools regularly, to personally respond to emails and phone calls, to be fiscally responsible with tax dollars and to champion the arts. I believe that I have followed through on these commitments.
As your Trustee, I served as Chair of the Budget Committee for 3 years. During this time, the TDSB made difficult cuts to budgets as required to provide a balanced budget as required by the Education Act. Some of my colleagues supported refusing to make cuts and to encourage the Ministry of Education to put the Board under supervision, thus abdicating our responsibilities. That is not why I sought election.
During my term, I also served as Chair of the Operations and Facilities Management Committee for two years and as Vice-Chair of the Human Resources and Professional Learning Committee.
I have been an active member of the Governance, House, Negotiations Steering and Ethics committees. I have worked on task forces including the Review of Family of Schools Organization workgroup. I have been a Trustee member of the Caring and Safe Schools Advisory Committee, the Continuing Education Advisory Committee and the Student Nutrition Advisory Committee (Co-Chair.)
I have been a TDSB appointee to serve on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Public School Boards Association, the Toronto Foundation for Student Success and The Toronto Lands Corporation.
On the personal side, I have been married to my beautiful wife, Sandy for 36 years. We have two (adult) children, Stephanie and Tim. Both continue to live and work in Toronto. My mother, Mary is a 94-year-old Veteran who lives at the Tony Stacey Centre for Veteran Care on Lawson Road in the Ward. My wife and I have lived our entire lives in Scarborough.
As chair of the school council at Joseph
Brant public school and PIAC rep. for Ward 22, it's my pleasure to
endorse Mr. Jerry Chadwick's campaign for trustee for our ward.
I have come to know him in his capacity as our trustee and have seen his dedication , quick response to matters and knowledge of our schools as a former principal . Mr. Chadwick has given us direction , foresight , support and resolve to a number of matters that affect our children and our schools .
Jerry Chadwick is an experienced and
knowledgeable educator/trustee whose passion and ability to make
things happen has greatly enriched the lives of thousands of students,
parents and educators.
Having spent the past fourteen years on the road and having come to know schools and school systems from coast to coast to coast, I have come to know commitment and effectiveness in education. I would be hard pressed to name a school board official anywhere who has the confidence of parents and educators alike and who has made a difference as has Trustee Jerry Chadwick.
I have known Jerry Chadwick for
over 20 years. I saw him as teacher, Vice-Principal and then
Principal within the Scarborough and then Toronto District School
Board. I have witnessed his dedication and passion working
with students. In the role of administrator his energies
ensured that his staff was prepared and equipped to provide the very
best education for their students. I was not surprised that
upon retirement that he ran for School Board Trustee. Jerry's
work was not finished. He brings years of experience and
provides support for parents, school administrators and teachers to
continue to see that the students of Scarborough receive the best
I support Jerry Chadwick, without any reservation, in his desire to continue to serve as Trustee with the Toronto District School Board.
I have greatly appreciated Trustee
Chadwick’s involvement and guidance in helping to raise funds at the
Retired Teachers of Ontario, District 24 ‘Breakfast for Kids’
charity golf tournaments. This tournament raises funds to help the
nutrition programs in Ward 22 schools as well as in other
Scarborough schools. The nutrition programs at Eastview, Military
Trail, West Hill Public Schools and West Hill Collegiate have been
the most recent beneficiaries in Ward 22.
Jerry Chadwick has always shown a keen interest in the well being of all students. His support, organizational skills and participation over the last four years have helped make our golf tournaments a huge success.
It is with great pleasure that I recommend Jerry Chadwick. I have known him for several years.
Jerry has always displayed a high degree of integrity, responsibility, and ambition. He is definitely a leader rather than a follower. In addition to his excellent accomplishments, he has proven his leadership ability through his support for programs which promote better schools and brighter futures for our children. He takes time out of his busy schedule to attend school council meetings and other school events in order to participate in the life of the school as well as to better understand the issues and challenges that are facing our schools today.
He is also a most dependable team player. His good judgment and mature outlook ensure a logical and practical approach to his endeavors.
Jerry would be an asset to the position for School Board Trustee, and I am happy to give him my wholehearted endorsement.
Jerry Chadwick has been a great supporter of the John G. Diefenbaker P.S. School Council. The Council always appreciates his presence at our open meetings and our special family events. As School Council Chair, he makes it clear that he is available for me whenever I need a question answered or for any type of advice pertaining to school procedures. He is very professional and very knowledgable. On behalf of my Council and I, we are very grateful for a wonderful Trustee like Jerry Chadwick!
